High Blood Pressure

High blood pressure presents a risk for heart disease. Your blood pressure is made up of two numbers, systolic (the first number in your blood pressure, it's the pressure when the heart beats) and diastolic (the second number in your blood pressure, it's the pressure when the heart rests). Both numbers are important, if one, or both, of them are high, you have high blood pressure. One in three adult Americans has high blood pressure, and nearly one-third of them don't know they have it.
