President's Message

Dr. Thelma Scott-SkillmanA Thank You to Our Communities

I want to thank the residents of Sacramento and El Dorado counties for their support of the Los Rios Community College District’s Measure M bond during the November 2008 election. Passage of this vital bond will allow Folsom Lake College to continue growing to meet the needs of our communities.

Folsom Lake College has seen sustained growth over several semesters. As a matter of fact, Folsom Lake College has again been recognized as one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the U.S., according to a December 2008 report from the national trade publication, Community College Week. Folsom Lake College was the 7th fastest-growing community college with 5,000-9,999 students, according to the publication’s review of Fall 2006-Fall 2007 enrollment data, with the college showing a 15.2% increase in enrollment. The college was ranked 10th the previous year.

Thank you for recognizing Folsom Lake College as your destination point to address your educational needs.

In this challenging economy, I know many of you are coming to Folsom Lake College to either re-career or boost existing job skills. We are here to help you. We offer a variety of classes and programs to help you respond to the current and future economic conditions of our region and state. Folsom Lake College strives to create an environment focused on student success. Our friendly faculty, staff, and administrators are ready to go “above & beyond” to help you succeed.

Students are encouraged to register as early as possible for upcoming semesters. Our continued dialogue with key legislators and their staff has emphasized keeping the budget cuts away from our classrooms and core student services. In addition we are opposing proposals that could have a midyear fee increase. However, we know the state budget crises will be felt by everyone, including community colleges. Seats in most classes will be limited with no additional course sections being added.

Folsom Lake College staff and faculty are extremely proud to serve the communities of eastern Sacramento and western El Dorado counties. We thank you, the residents of those communities, for supporting our growth and development.

We could not do it without you.

Dr. Thelma Scott-Skillman
President, Folsom Lake College
