Amy Nguyen
Transferring to UCLA in 2009

"...[Dr. Reese] really made the effort in making sure we understood the topics discussed in class."

Amy Nguyen

When did you start taking classes with Folsom Lake College (FLC)?

I began taking classes at Folsom in Jan. 2007.

What was your major?

My major is biology.

Why did you choose FLC?

I chose Folsom Lake College because I heard from fellow classmates that they have a great chemistry department so I decided to take my Organic Chemistry series with Professor Reese.

What was the best part of your experience with FLC?

The best part about attending Folsom college was probably that I was able to meet students who were caring and always lending a hand. Also, Professor Reese was a very helpful, encouraging, and supportive professor.

What are you particularly proud of that you accomplished with FLC?

I am particular proud of the knowledge that I gained as a student in Dr. Reese’s Organic Chemistry class. We were exposed to instruments that we would not likely find at a community college.

How do you feel Folsom Lake College helped prepare you for the future?

Besides meeting new colleagues, I owe it to Dr. Reese for taking the time and dedication with my learning experience with Organic Chemistry. It is not an easy topic to grasp, yet he made it enjoyable and really made the effort in making sure we understood the topics discussed in class.

What are you doing now?

Currently, I am doing a summer research at Princeton University in New Jersey and looking forward to attending UCLA in fall of 2009! I am working on a project that deals with aquatic microbial oxygenic photoautotrops that produces a source of renewable hydrogen which can offer an alternative to fossil carbon-based sources of hydrogen.
