Student Profile
Caroline "Kara" Swanson
2009 Graduate; Degree in General Education Transfer
"...I was lucky enough to find like-minded people who also felt it was a priority to have campus culture and create an avenue to showcase the talents of students."

When did you start taking classes with Folsom Lake College (FLC)?
I started in Fall '06 and graduated in Spring '09.
What was your major?
I got my AA in General Ed, but English is my major.
Why did you choose FLC?
I chose FLC out of convenience. It was a 5 minute drive from my house
What was the best part of your experience with FLC?
The best part about FLC was getting involved in the student life, joining Student Government and the Inklings. I also really enjoyed the personal connections I made with some of my professors.
What are you particularly proud of that you accomplished with FLC?
I am proud not of what I did alone, but of what I accomplished with my peers in Student Government [as Student Body President 2008-2009] and the Inklings. I know that Student Government has twice as many members as last year and I take that as a compliment to the hard work we invested in becoming more transparent on campus. My proudest accomplishment however was spear-heading the Inkwell, the student literary magazine. It is a passion of mine and I was lucky enough to find like-minded people who also felt it was a priority to have campus culture and create an avenue to showcase the talents of students.
How do you feel Folsom Lake College helped prepare you for the future?
Considering I took advantage of the leadership opportunities at FLC, I developed the gumption to develop and pursue not just my goals, but to facilitate the manifestation of a collective goal.
What are you doing now?
Now I am doing great! I am at the University of Iowa, working on my writing and involving myself in the Greek Life, ever-working on my development as a person so that when I enter the professional world I can continue (with more strength) to be a tool of the future.
