When did you start taking classes with Folsom Lake College (FLC)?
I started in Fall 2008.
What was your major?
Communications (Organizational)
Why did you choose FLC?
It was the closest school to me, but after I attended, I stayed on because it was such a fabulous campus!!! Everyone there was so helpful and really went the full nine yards for me to maximize my potential. I had attend many schools and this was by far the best.
What was the best part of your experience with FLC?
Meeting the people that work for FLC and EDC. Thank you to Dr. Reese in Chemistry. He gave me the best counsel and is an exemplary instructor. Everyone in Comm Studies from the Dean to Dr. Tucker working part time. I have left out many, K.C. Boylan, Paula Haug, Mary Wall, et al. But they aren't the only ones. I had found wonderful people in advising, library, student services, administration, health and dining. You name it, they were all winners. Each took special care to be the most effective educators and supporters of all of the students.
What are you particularly proud of that you accomplished with FLC?
I am most proud of my work with the Folsom Lake Debate Team. It's always good to win, but it was also edifying to learn. Debate opened up a newer world to me. Thank you Lisa, Jeremy and K.C. It was new and that was exciting. We were successful and that is always fun. The best part was being able to represent FLC and compete against much larger and more experienced 2 and 4 year colleges. It illustrates that abililty is never limited by age or experience. Those things are helpful but desire is key. We wanted those wins, we worked for them and we got them. Plus we got to expose those institutions and their students to what we have at Folsom Lake College. They know who we are now. I am proud of that and my fellow students as well.
How do you feel Folsom Lake College helped prepare you for the future?
Folsom Lake College was a relaunch for me. I changed my major and am changing my occupation. The classes prepared me for the classes that I will be taking to further my studies and the teaching was very good. It also exposed me to newer possibilities. It allowed me to grow.
What are you doing now?
I am enrolled in the fall of 09 at Sac State as a comm major with emphasis on public relations. I have become interested in teaching at the post secondary school level. Perhaps one day I will return to FLC as an instructor. This is because the students are grand and I would love to give back in this way. I plan to continue with intercolligate debate and am interested in getting a PH.d eventually. I also hope that this major will help me be more effective in my non school life. I have many goals and a large one is to increase Human Traffiking Awareness. No one can be free if someone is enslaved. I also hope to bring about better local governent. The work that I have done at FLC gave me the right foundation, Sac State should make it even more sturdy and then stand back because I am more than ready to do this.
