Welcome to Counseling Services
Whether you are a first-time student, returning student or have been attending college for some time, you may encounter periods when your educational performance or personal equilibrium is challenged. You will find a variety of professional counseling services at the Folsom Lake College and El Dorado and Rancho Cordova Centers.
Mission Statement
The Counseling department provides prospective and current students with comprehensive academic, career, transfer and personal counseling necessary to successfully reach their educational, career and personal goals.
Student Learning Outcomes
As a result of contact with a Folsom Lake College Counselor,
-students will be better able to identify their academic, career and/or personal goals;
-students will become aware of support services and/or resources that can assist them in being successful;
-students will have a better understanding of the requirements needed to meet their goals.
Hours: By appointment, M-Th day and evening; Friday during the day; and on a drop-in basis during peak registration times.
Location: Both Folsom Lake College and El Dorado Center Counseling Centers are located in the Student Services Buildings on each of these campuses. Need a map of each campus? Counseling Services at Rancho Cordova Center can be accessed at the main Rancho Cordova Center office.
Counseling services include:
Academic assistance with: certificate/degree requirements, transfer requirements and college selection preparation for an academic major course selection. See Preparing for your Counseling Appointment.
Career assessment of interests, abilities and values, labor market information employment trends. Re-entry - resources for single parents and displaced homemakers support network.
Crisis Intervention:
- Conflict resolution
- Stress management
- Coping skills
- Referrals to community resources, where appropriate
Short-term Personal Counseling assistance with personal, family or work concerns as they relate to educational goals and progress.
Multicultural Counseling Counseling in the context of respect for cultural origins and values.
