Folsom Lake College CalWORKs

What is CalWORKs?

CalWORKs (California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids) is a state funded Welfare-to-Work program designed to help individuals become self-sufficient.

What is FLC CalWORKs?

Folsom Lake College's CalWORKs program provides support and services to assist students who are currently state CalWORKs recipients, or who are in transition off of CalWORKs to achieve long-term self-sufficiency. Specifically, our department provides coordinated college student services to eligible participants to ensure that they are completing adequate progress towards their county-approved education goal while also assuming a point of contact, coordination and advocacy between the student and their county case worker to ensure compliance and success. Services include advising and referral services, counseling in order to obtain a CalWORKs approved Educational Plan, job development and job placement, educational supply vouchers, work-study opportunities, assistance with textbook cost verifications, assistance with enrollment verification documents, transportation resources, child care referrals and advocacy.

FLC CalWORKs is here to assist you on your pathway to academic success and life long self-sufficiency. Please contact us with any questions that you may have about our services.

Department Mission Statement:

Our mission is to support our students' successful negotiation of their pathway to life-long self-sufficiency through education, equity and empowerment.

Department Student Learning Outcomes:

As a result of participating in a FLC-CalWORKs Orientation session, the student will be able to effectively navigate both the college enrollment process and county compliance procedures.

As a result of participating in a FLC-CalWORKs Advising session (post Orientation), the student will be able to calculate his/her 32-35 hour requirement of core and non-core activities, as applicable.
