Disabled Students Programs and Services (DSPS)
Services Provided
Folsom Lake College welcomes diverse students, including those with a variety of disabilities. Services are provided to students with physical, psychological and learning disabilities through the Folsom Lake College’s Disabled Students Programs & Services (DSP&S). The Program’s philosophy is to assist students with disabilities in becoming successful and independent learners who achieve their full potential and become actively engaged in the campus community.
The Program consists of the following components:
1. Counseling and advocacy.
2. Academic accommodations and support services.
3. Alternate media and assistive computer technology.
4. Liaison with and referral to campus and community services.
5. Diagnostic assessment of learning disabilities.
Accommodations and support services are based on the functional limitation of the student’s disability and how the limitation impacts learning in the classroom. Typical services provided include: priority registration, extended time on tests in a quiet room, tutorial assistance, sign language interpreters, books on tape and MP3 compact disks, note-takers, CCTV monitor/enlarger, assistive computer technology, campus orientation, academic and disability-related counseling, learning disability assessment and study strategy classes.
