Women's Tennis Team Qualifies Two Players for NorCal Championship Tournament; Billingsley Earns All-Conference Honors

After battling rain and wet weather for two days at the Big 8 Conference Tournament in Santa Rosa, the FLC women's tennis team qualified a doubles team for the NorCal Regional Championship, to be played at the Ojai Tournament April 24-25.  The #2 doubles team of Jennifer Tu & Amanda Smead had to play through the backdraw and reach the Consolation finals in order to qualify for the regional tournament. Following the conference tournament, Rebecca Billingsley was named to the All-Conference Honorable Mention team.

Falcon Tennis Falls to Diablo Valley

The Folsom Lake College women's tennis team wrapped up the Big 8 Conference regular season a competitive loss at Diablo Valley College on Friday by the scores of 6-3.  #4 Olga Grabciuc and #5 Rebecca Billingsley both won their singles matches, then teamed up to win at #3 doubles. The pair of Jennifer Tu and Amanda Smead lost a hard-fought match at #2 doubles, 8-6.

Women's  Tennis Team Defeated By American River

The FLC women's tennis team took their game on the road last Friday for a Big 8 Conference match at American River, but did not find victory. The Beavers were not kindhearted hosts as the ARC women won 7-2.  #4 Olga Grabciuc and #5 Rebecca Billingsley continued their winning ways as both won their singles matches. Billingsley now has five wins in seven conference matches, having only lost to Sierra twice.

Falcon Tennis Falls to Diablo Valley

The FLC women's tennis team closed out their home schedule yesterday at Broadstone Racquet Club with a loss to Big 8 rival Diablo Valley College by the score of 7-2. Coach Perez was very pleased with the team's competitiveness and effort. "We had a couple doubles matches that ended with a 3rd set loss," said Coach Perez. "That's a tough way to lose."  Winners for the women were #4 single Olga Grabciuc and #5 single Rebecca Billingsley.

Women's Tennis Falls to Foothill; Final Home Match Tomorrow

The FLC women's tennis team went on the road last Friday to fill a void in their schedule (due to Shasta College's lack of tennis players). The Falcons lost to perennial NorCal power Foothill College, 9-0. #6 single Stefany Valtman came closest to victory, but lost in a 3rd-set tiebreaker, 6-4, 0-6, 5-10.

The Falcon tennis teams will host their final home match of the 2014 season tomorrow (Tuesday) at Broadstone Racquet Club when they take on Diablo Valley College at 1:00 pm. Spectatators are welcome free of charge.

Lady Falcons Win!

After their excruciatingly close loss (5-4) to Santa Rosa back on February 21, the FLC women's tennis team vowed to turn the tables in the March 11 rematch. Yesterday, the Falcons made good on their promise with a 6-3 victory over the Bearcubs for their first Big 8 Conference win of 2014. FLC freshmen Olga Grabciuc and Rebecca Billingsley were winners in both singles and doubles, and freshman Amanda Smead also won in singles as the Falcons celebrated a home-court victory at Broadstone Racquet Club.

Struggle against a powerhouse Sierra team

The Lady Falcons struggled to win a game against perhaps  the best team in the conference in the Wolverines losing the match 9-0.  Individual and double scores to be posted soon.

Women's Tennis faces tough competition in American River

The Lady Falcons were up against possibly the second-best women's team in the Big 8 conference. The lone victor for the Falcons was #5 singles player Rebecca Billingsley, who won 7-6, 6-4.

Women's Tennis turns in gutsy performance at Santa Rosa

The women's team dropped two of the three doubles matches and trailed 4-1 after two singles, but somehow clawed their way back with 3-set wins by Stefany Valtman (#6 singles), Rebecca Billingsley (#5 singles), and Jennifer Tu (#2 singles) to tie the score at 4-4. Amanda Smead (#3 singles) found herself tied 4-4 in the third (and deciding) set in the match that would determine the outcome. Unfortunately, the stars did not align as Amanda lost a heartbreaker4-6. It was, however, "...a match that this young team can build upon," according to coach Craig Perez. "The three singles wins were ‘clutch' come-from-behind, gutsy wins."

Women's Tennis faces tough opponent in Sierra

For the women, the #3 doubles team of Olga Grabciuc and Rebeccca Billingsley came the closest to victory, losing 4-8. The Sierra College women showed why they are the favorite to repeat as conference champions with straight set victories in all the singles matches. "Our young team experienced first-hand what it is going to take to compete at the top level," said first year coach Craig Perez.

Women's Tennis wins again at CRC

The women's tennis team dominated CRC, 9-0, for their second win in as many matches. Amanda Smead (#4 singles) did not lose a single game all day as she won 6-0, 6-0 in singles and paired with Jennifer Tu to win 8-0 in #2 doubles. Tu was nearly as dominant as she won #3 singles 6-2, 6-0. "Our strength really is in the bottom our lineup," said women's coach Craig Perez.

Women's Tennis wins at San Francisco

In women's tennis, first year head coach Craig Perez got his young team off to a great start yesterday with a well-deserved victory over CCSF. The Falcons won the team match despite losing in #1 and #2 singles and #1 doubles. The depth of the squad proved to be their strength as #2 doubles team of Jennifer Tu/Amanda Smead rallied to win as did #3 doubles team of Olga Grabciuc/Rebecca Billingsley. In singles, Amanda (#4), Rebecca (#5), and Olga (#6) all earned victories, giving the Falcons a 5-4 team win. Of particular note was the #1 doubles match, where Aneta Zagorenko/Emma Berry fell behind 0-6 before rallying to tie the match at 8-8. Unfortunately, their comeback bid was thwarted when they lost the final tie-breaker 7-5. After a two-year dry spell, it's exciting to have women's tennis back on a winning streak! Congratulations, Coach Perez!

Season looks promising for Women's Tennis

First-year women's head coach Craig Perez has been quietly assembling what might prove to be FLC's best women's tennis team ever. Leading the team will be Vista del Lago grad Aneta Zagorenko. Emma Berry (Del Oro grad) and Jennifer Tu (Cordova grad) will provide solid play at # 2 and 3. Spectators are welcome to watch the dawn of a new era in women's tennis on Tuesday; Broadstone is just a mile from campus and admission is free. Play begins with doubles matches at 1:00 pm, followed by singles at approximately 2:00 pm.
