What is the cost of the MLT program?

*Outlined below are the most up-to-date costs of the above (subject to change):*

College Enrollment fees
Fee: $ 46.00/ unit. (MLT program is 33-37 units)
More information can be found

All accepted applicants will be required to purchase approved scrubs for participation in the MLT program. The MLT program offers approved scrubs through a campus bookstore at a discounted rate. More information will be given at MLT orientation. Current cost is $125.00 for four sets of approved scrubs.

Background Check and Drug Screening
All accepted applicants will be required to pass a background check and drug screening. Fee: ~$100.00- $135.00 depending on current vendor. More information will be given during orientation.

Vaccination and TB Clearance report
Cost varies based on each student's individual vaccination history, healthcare coverage, and test results (some results require additional testing). Information about obtaining these services at reasonable cost is available from FLC's sister college ARC here. All documentation of immunizations must go through the college's current and approved vendor.

Rotation Management Software Subscription
The MLT Program and its clinical partners utilize cloud-based rotation management systems to aid in the onboarding and tracking of students during the practicum portion of the program. Current cost is $100.00-$135.00 per student, and may vary by clinical partner.

Liability Insurance Coverage
All MLT students are required to purchase their prorated portion of FLC's annual liability insurance policy. The current student fee for the liability insurance is ~ $40.00 in the form of two $20.00 payments.

Health Insurance Coverage
Students must provide their own health insurance coverage throughout the entire MLT program. The college will not provide any insurance in the event of an injury on campus.  Furthermore, clinical affiliates will not train any student without health insurance coverage for liability purposes. Information on low cost health insurance can be obtained via the ARC Student Health Center.

CPR Course
All MLT students are required to have Basic Life Support training through the American Heart Association. If possible, students will be given the opportunity to participate in a course at a discounted rate. Prices will vary, but typically range from $50.00-$100.00

Fit Testing
All students must be FIT tested for a N95 respiratory mask. The student will assume all costs associated with the fitting. If possible, students will be given the opportunity to participate in a course at a discounted rate. Prices will vary, but typically range from $25.00-$85.00

Other Expenses:

  • Textbooks
  • Disposable Gloves, Glass Slides, and other class supplies
  • Disposable Lab Coats
  • Printing and Computer Costs
  • Transportation to classes and clinical rotation site*

* While we make every effort to ensure students have access to local clinical affiliates, there are several rhospital sites that are outside of this service area. As a result, each student should be prepared for the costs associated with traveling long distances or relocating temporarily for the duration of their clinical rotation. Information on how the program determines student site preference can be found in the MLT Handbook section 4.7.

Licensure Costs
In order to become officially licensed as a Medical Laboratory Technologists, graduates from the FLC's MLT program must both pass a national licensing exam and apply for licensure through the State of California. The fees associated with each activity are as follows:

·     MLT Certification Examination by American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Registry (ASCP) $215.00

·     MLT Licensing by California Department of Health Services. The application fee is fully non-refundable. No partial or full refunds will be granted. $230.00
