Margaret Welty, MA

Magaret WeltyMargaret Welty emphasizes individual expression and creativity in her art classes that range from drawing, painting, color and design to teaching art to children. Professor Welty's focus is on design basics, skill development, critical perceptual thinking and understanding the essential aspects of visual communication and composition.

Welty instructs and produces a regional cable TV show, Art Creativity and You. Teaching viewers how to "draw, paint and create,"AC&Y has been broadcast from Folsom Lake College since the fall of 2005. Margaret Welty is also the creator of Drawing Free, an innovative method of teaching art on line.

Professor Welty (www.margaretwelty.com) earned both her B.A. and Masters degrees in Art from California State University Fullerton. While in high school, Welty was selected and hired to be the primary instructor of a studio art class for the last semester of her senior year. While continuing her art education, Welty drew 50+ pastel portraits (a day!) working as an artist at Disneyland.

In addition to teaching art for Los Rios Community College District for over 20 years, Welty has worked extensively in the marketing, design phase, construction and installation of her own site-specific art for major corporate clients that include: Sheraton and Hyatt Hotels, Exxon and Caterpillar Corporations and Stanford University. Throughout her life as a studio artist, Welty has had many one-person and group exhibitions of her large scale fiber constructions and paintings.
