Folsom Lake College invites the community to attend two special forums on the subject of children in the performing arts. The first meeting will be held Thursday, May 7, from 6-9pm, at the main Folsom campus (10 College Parkway) and the second will be held Thursday, May 14, from 6-9pm at the college’s El Dorado Center (6699 Campus Drive in Placerville). Both forums will be held in the respective campus’ Community Rooms.
The forums are supported by a grant from AT&T, with the eventually goal of helping develop Children in the Visual and Performing Arts: Education & Performance – A Plan for Our Future. This plan will develop a process to provide students with a variety of experiences, enhancing cultural awareness, and broadening cultural activities as well as sharing in the collaborative artistic experience. It will also provide a variety of opportunities for students to explore the artistic experience in each of the visual and performing arts: Art, Theatre, Dance, and Music. The plan will also be instrumental in providing a basis for future funding to facilitate projects and activities connecting the college’s new Regional Visual and Performing Arts Center (currently under construction and set to open in late Fall 2010) with all the K-12 schools in the Folsom Lake College service area.
Children and the arts is a key focus of the college’s new Regional Visual and Performing Arts Center. The forums are designed to give parents, arts organizations, and local residents the opportunity to offer their input and creative ideas on how students and teachers can benefit from the center. Folsom Lake College is committed to nurturing the next generation of performing artists; to open up a world of culture to children and families; and to present the best in live performances from diverse traditions and disciplines.
