#GivingTuesday

FLC PISO
November 19, 2018

#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. Following Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, this year's #GivingTuesday will take place on November 27 and will kick off the giving season by inspiring people to collaborate and give back.

Students not having enough food to eat (aka food insecurity) is a hidden crisis on college campuses across the United States. Did you know that nearly 40% of community college students have very low food security? In 2010, FLC Health & Wellness Services observed many students coming to school hungry because they didn't have the financial resources to buy food; some were subsisting on one incomplete meal a day, and some hadn't eaten in days. In response, the FLC Student Food Cabinet was established and has been providing non-perishable, nutritious foods to students in need ever since.

In honor of the global #GivingTuesday on Tuesday, November 27, take part in the solution and help FLC students in need by donating healthy, easy-to-open, non-perishable food to the #FOODforFALCONS pantry via donation boxes located in the Office of Philanthropy (Aspen Hall FL1-9), the Harris Center for the Arts, or around campus, or give a monetary gift online.
