The Falcon’s Eye Theatre at Folsom Lake College announces AUDITIONS for The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee - a musical comedy directed by David Harris with musical director Philip Angove and dance choreographer Debi Worth.

Coming up from The Falcon’s Eye, please join us for the Tony Award-winning musical comedy, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee by William Finn and Rebecca Sheinkin. This hilarious hit musical tale of overachievers’ angst chronicles the experiences of six adolescent outsiders vying for the spelling championship of a lifetime. The show’s creative team has created a quirky yet charming cast of outsiders for whom a spelling bee is the one place where they can stand out and fit in at the same time.

Audition Date: Monday, Feb. 8, 7:00pm on a first-come, first-served basis (callbacks will be held Feb. 9 & 10 and possibly other dates at 7:00pm by invitation only following the Feb. 8 general auditions).
Audition Location: Physical Education Dance Studio (PE-203), on the Folsom campus.
Rehearsal Dates: Feb. 22 through April 29, weekday evenings and Saturday afternoons.
Performance Dates: April 30 through May 16, Friday and Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons. There is one Thursday night performance.

Auditioners must prepare 16 bars of a song appropriate to the style of the show that demonstrates your vocal range. You may sing a song from the show if you want. Bring sheet music in the key you will be singing in. An accompanist will be provided. You may also choose to use recorded accompaniment on a compact disc only or sing a capella.

Auditioners are also asked to prepare a comic monologue that is no longer than 90 seconds. Please memorize this monologue if possible, although memorization is not required. You might also be asked to audition by way of cold readings from the text.

There will also be a dance and movement audition. You will be taught a short combination and will perform the movement in groups. Please wear appropriate clothing.

Auditions will take place on the campus of Folsom Lake College, 10 College Parkway in Folsom. A daily parking pass can be purchased for $1. For a map with directions to the event, please click here.
