Library Policies

The Student Access Card is a Los Rios Library Card. Pick up a Student Access Card at the Computer Lab located in Building C. The Access Card has a bar-code which must be activated at the LIBRARY CIRCULATION DESK. Once activated as a Library Card, the Student Access Card must be used to check out books. The card will need to be updated at the Circulation Desk each semester enrolled. The activated Access Card is valid at any of the Los Rios Community College District Libraries: American River College, Cosumnes River College, Folsom Lake College and Sacramento City College. Registered Los Rios students can borrow books from any one of these libraries. For lost cards, students will need to pay a replacement charge at Student Services before a new card can be issued. For more information click on the following link: http://www.losrios.edu/lrc/lrc_sacard.htm

Return all books and materials to the proper Book Return. The inside Book Return is located at the left end of the Circulation Desk. An outside Book Drop is available near the library entrance. Only use the outside book drop when the Library is closed.

Students need to use the Library Catalog to request books that will be delivered to the EDC campus library, free of charge, from any of the Los Rios Community College Libraries. Students may ask for help to place a "Hold" on any Los Rios District library book that is already checked out. NO "Hold" privileges are available for Reserve materials. There is approximately a three-day waiting period for books to arrive. Students may request up to 7 circulating books at one time.

Students may request books to be sent to the EDC campus library, free of charge, from the Sacramento State University Library and the California State Library. There is approximately a two-week waiting period for books to arrive. Request forms are available at the Circulation Desk.

Wireless Internet connection is available for enrolled students in the Library for personal computer use. However, the Library computers are available for Research purposes only.

Residents of the community who are not currently enrolled in a Los Rios District course may purchase a "Community Library Card". This card allows anyone in the community to use the library for borrowing books, and to have on-campus access to the online periodical databases. The cost of this card is $15.00 per six month period or $30.00 per year.
Circulating Books may be checked out for 3 weeksCirculating Videos may be checked out for one week. All materials must be returned by the end of each semester. Reserve materials may have checkout periods of 2 hours, overnight, 3 days, or one week. Materials checked out for 2 hours are for in-library use only. The number of items you are limited to checkout are: 7 circulating books, 2 reserve books and 2 videos.

Library material that is lost will have a current replacement cost PLUS a $10.00 NON-REFUNDABLE processing fee. Replacement cost for out-of-print material is at least $40.00 PLUS a $10.00 NON-REFUNDABLE processing fee. Students have thirty (30) days to return the book for a refund minus the non-refundable processing fee.
Be sure to check your gmail account for any library information notices about requests or overdue books.

Overdue fines continue to accrue during the hours and days that the library is closed. Non-payment of fines or failure to return materials will result in a BLOCK on the student's records in Admissions. Fines are paid at Student Services. Blocks are cleared when the student brings a paid receipt back to the Library Circulation Desk.
