Course Reserves

Reserves are course materials, such as textbooks, made available in the library for student use. The library carries many, but not all textbooks for current classes. Most are available for short periods, such as two hours. Use the search below to find items that your instructor may have on reserve.

If you need assistance finding a textbook, please contact the Reference Desk at (916) 608-6612 or visit a librarian in the library for assistance.

Course Reserves - Q&A for Students

What are Course Reserves?
Course Reserves allow instructors to make course material available to all students in their classes. Items that may be placed on reserve include books, articles, chapters, videos, class notes, study guides and other course material. Both library-owned and instructor-owned material may be placed on reserve.

How long can a reserve item be checked out for?
Most items have a two-hour loan period, although some go out for longer. The loan period is set by the instructor.

Where are reserve items located?
Course reserves are kept behind the Circulation Desk and is not available for browsing. Students must bring the appropriate call number to the Circulation Desk to retrieve the item.

Can reserve material be taken out of the library?
Reserve items with two-hour loans must remain in the library.  Those items with longer loan periods may be taken out of the library.
