GRADUATION AND CANDIDATE INFORMATION

Congratulations on your completion or near completion of your degree at Folsom Lake College! We look forward to celebrating with you, your family and friends at our Commencement ceremony on Wednesday, May 21, 2008, at 6:30 p.m. All August and December 2007 graduates and May 2008 candidates are encouraged to participate in this two-hour event. Graduates are asked to participate in the rehearsal at 5:30 p.m. prior to the ceremony.

Sign up to “walk” in the Commencement Ceremony

The deadline to register to participate and walk in the ceremony is May 2.

INSTRUCTIONS

Commencement Ceremony

  • Commencement will begin at 6:30 p.m. SHARP on Wednesday, May 21, 2008, on the Folsom Lake College campus.

  • Graduates check-in at the outdoor table near Portable 16 between
    4:30 and 5:30 p.m.

  • Graduates will then assemble in Portable 16 at 5:30 p.m., appropriately attired in the teal gown, teal mortarboard, with the teal and black tassel hanging from the right side of the mortarboard.

  • The ceremony will be held outdoors on the Athletic Field.

  • Guests will not be required to have tickets in order to attend the outdoor ceremony.

  • Graduates and their guests are invited to a brief reception following the graduation ceremony.

Commencement Ceremony rehearsal (required)

  • Rehearsal will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21 in Portable Room 16. If you are planning to participate in the ceremony, you must attend the rehearsal.  During this time you will be instructed on entering and exiting the commencement area, receiving your diploma tube on the stage, proper tassel placement, and seating arrangements. SERVICES FOR PERSONS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

If you are a student who has special needs (mobility challenges, hearing impaired, visually impaired), you are invited to contact the DSPS Office at 916-608-6611 by May 2 and let them know how they can assist you.  An American Sign Language interpreter will be present on stage.

Handicapped parking is available surrounding the Child Development Center (near the Athletic Field).  In addition, there will be a drop-off area near the athletic field (across from the commencement ceremony location).

RAIN PLAN

In case of rain, there is a plan B indoor ceremony, which would have limited seating requiring tickets for guests.  This ceremony would be held at Lakeside Church on Oak Avenue Parkway in Folsom.  Graduates will be contacted as May 21 approaches if there is a forecast for rain with any associated information.  An announcement would be posted on the FLC website as well.

OTHER INFORMATION

Parking
Parking is free during the ceremony; therefore, Permit and/or Daily Pass Parking will NOT be enforced on the day of the ceremony. However, all red, green and blue zones will be enforced. Parking spaces will be at a premium, so guests should arrive early.

Other

  • Folsom Lake College requests your cooperation in complying with the following commencement dress rules. Approved commencement dress consists of robe, mortarboard, and tassel. Highest Honors students may wear a gold tassel. PTK members may wear a PTK stole and/or other PTK regalia, which is sold in the college bookstore or online at the Phi Theta Kappa website, www.ptk.org. All other ornamentation, including but no limited to signs on the top of mortarboards, buttons, etc., are considered extraneous and are not permitted.

  • Students with Academic Highest Honors (3.5 – 4.0+ GPA) will receive a gold tassel when they check-in for commencement participation. Honors status is based upon your grades from ALL semesters prior to your semester of graduation, including other colleges. For Spring 2008 graduates, your GPA calculation does NOT use any grades from Spring 2008 coursework. If you have questions or concerns about whether or not you have a 3.5 GPA, please call FLC at 916-608-6500.

  • Smoking during the ceremony is strictly prohibited.

BOOKSTORE

  • In order to participate in the ceremony, you must purchase your cap and gown at the FLC Bookstore (also available at EDC). The cap, tassel and gown are yours to keep and is the required attire for the ceremony (teal robe, teal mortarboard and teal and black tassel). Cap and gown: $26.00 (including tax)
  • Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) members may wear a gold PTK stole and/or Honor Cord.  You may purchase these items in the Bookstore (Stole for $22.50 plus tax / Honor chord for $16.25 plus tax).

  • Other items you may purchase from the Bookstore (but not required): Graduation Announcements - $1.00 each (plus tax) / Box of 25 for $19.95 plus tax
    Additional tassels - $5.49 (plus tax)
