David Reese
Professor / Political Science

"(Re)discover your love of learning because that is the key to success."

Why should students care about political science?

Because politics effects everything and every discipline, so regardless of major there is always something to be learned about how government is impacting your profession. In addition, the original purpose of higher education in America was to educate people to be better American citizens.

What advice would you give to a new college student?

(Re)discover your love of learning because that is the key to success.

What’s the favorite part of your job?

My favorite part of the job is the people I interact with: My students, from whom I learn while I educate. My colleagues who provide me support and encouragement.

What was your proudest moment working with students?

When I was chosen as one of the most impactful professors by one of my students who nominated me after transferring to UC Irvine.

David Reese has his B.A. from UC Santa Barbara, M.A. from San Diego State, and Ph.D. from Colorado State University.
