Transferred to UC San Diego in 2007
"I was lucky to be a part of FLC when it was still being built and be able to watch it turn into the beautiful campus it is now."
When did you start taking classes with Folsom Lake College (FLC)?
What was your major?
Why did you choose FLC?
I honestly wasn't ready to leave home for college and was not very financially well off. For these reasons, FLC was a perfect starting point in my academic career.
What was the best part of your experience with FLC?
Me being part of Chemistry Club on campus was a very rewarding part of my experience at FLC. I also worked at the FLC bookstore (when it was still in a portable!!). I was lucky to be a part of FLC when it was still being built and be able to watch it turn into the beautiful campus it is now. I met many amazing students and faculty alike, some of which became great friends who I still keep in contact with to this day.
What are you particularly proud of that you accomplished with FLC?
My involvement in helping get the Chemistry Club started at FLC, I feel was a great accomplishment. It was great to interact with fellow students that shared similar interests in science through Chemistry Club.
How do you feel Folsom Lake College helped prepare you for the future?
I was definitely surrounded by many motivated and career driven people at FLC and I can honestly say that those values really stuck with me.
What are you doing now?
I am currently writing my dissertation for my PhD in medicinal chemistry at the University of California San Diego and will be defending in June.
What are your plans for the future?
I plan to join a drug discovery company in the greater San Diego area in summer. I will focus on the design and synthesis of relevant pharmaceutical targets to treat chronic diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, asthma and rheumatoid arthritis.
