2005 Graduate; Degree in General Education Transfer
"The instructors and librarians were engaging, encouraging and gave me a great deal of support!"
When did you start taking classes with Folsom Lake College (FLC)?
I began with classes in August of 2003.
What was your major?
My major was Psychology.
Why did you choose FLC?
I actually was looking for a ROP class and was lost. Professor Peg Scott noticed my confusion and convinced me to take some classes. I had never attended college and at the age of 43, I was a bit intimidated but followed through.
What was the best part of your experience with FLC?
The instructors and librarians were the best part of the experience. They were engaging, encouraging and gave me a great deal of support!
What are you particularly proud of that you accomplished with FLC?
Having never taken college courses before and being horrible with math, I am proud that I never gave up no matter how hard things seemed at the time.
How do you feel Folsom Lake College helped prepare you for the future?
I had such great instructors that I was accepted into several universities. I chose CSUS for the psychology program. The statistics class taught by Peg Scott actually made upper division psychology statistics a piece of cake!
What are you doing now?
I am currently enrolled at San Jose State University in the Graduate program for Library Information Science, additionally I am working as an LMTA for Sacramento City College and volunteering for a tribal library. I just completed a summer-long internship with the National Archives in Seattle Washington and an internship with the Urban Indian Health Institute in Seattle.
What are your plans for the future?
My hope is to one day return to my reservation to work for our cultural center/library or possibly return to FLC as a librarian. That would really complete the circle!
