Student Story

Chris Koch
Transferred to CSU Sacramento in 2006

"FLC is privileged to have the most up-to-date technology and arguably the best administration, faculty, and staff. "

Chris Koch

How do you feel about your FLC experience?

FLC fostered growth in many areas of my life. The first was becoming successful academically. The faculty, administration, and staff collectively opened my eyes to the fact I was bound for success beyond academics. I have since become more than a strong academic student; I have also become a believer in entrepreneurship and internships. While a student at FLC, I started my own business. Now, I am a business owner and an intern for Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. Folsom Lake College was my source of confidence, and has now solidified into a foundation for which I continue to grow upon.

How did FLC prepare you for your experience at Sac State?

To describe my transition from FLC to CSUS, I use the example of a pool. FLC was the shallow end, where I was able to get wet, yet I could still stand. Once I gained the confidence at FLC (academically and more), transitioning to the deep end (a four-year institution) was smooth. I definitely didn't feel as if I jumped directly into the deep end where I may have drowned. If I could do it all over again, I wouldn't have changed anything--community college is where I would begin. I came up with this and I tell people who are considering community college as their first step in their college career. It seems to be great advice and it is my experience exactly.

What would/do you tell others about FLC?

I hope the two answers above encompass most of this. In addition, I tell students that Folsom Lake College in particular is one of most advantageous community colleges in the state to begin your college career at. As a developing member of the California State-Wide Student Senate, I have seen and heard the experiences from community colleges around the state. FLC is privileged to have the most up-to-date technology and arguably the best administration, faculty, and staff. Folsom Lake College is a family environment, and everyone there is a huge player in your success beyond your studies at their campus.
