Erika Martinez
Current FLC Student majoring in Business

"I made the right choice by starting my college education here."

Erika Martinez

When did you start taking classes with Folsom Lake College (FLC)?

I began my education with Folsom Lake College in the spring 2010 semester. At first I wanted to wait and get a fresh start in the fall of 2010, but after talking it over with one of our helpful counselors, he made me realize that it was ok to start in the spring. I remember the first day of class; it was intense, yet very enjoyable.

What is your major?

My major is Business. I chose this major because I have an immense interest for the business world. I want to study business with a focus in international relations. I find traveling to be a passion of mine. I want to eventually be employed with a corporation that requires me to travel to different parts of the world. The business atmosphere is fueled by fast-acting individuals, like me. Once I finish my education I want to be a part of that exciting fast-paced environment.

Why did you choose FLC?

What drew me to become a student at Folsom Lake College was the campus; it was perfect, from the beautiful new buildings to the smaller class sizes, which enabled me to build close relationships with the professors and staff. The first instructor at FLC that made a great impression was Professor Siegfried, his unique way of teaching made the class experience interesting and enjoyable. I made the right choice by starting my college education here.

What was the best part of your experience with FLC?

The best part of my experience here at FLC was getting to know my instructors. I have had the pleasure to take classes with professors that are helpful and knowledgeable about their subjects and teach with patience and uniqueness. I believe one of the most important aspects of being successful in college is having the right support from your instructors and here at FLC; I have definitely found that support.

What are you particularly proud of that you accomplished at FLC?

I am very proud of being a part of the financial aid department as a student help employee. For some students, money is the only thing that holds them back from going to college. I have the opportunity to work with these students to help them get the financial support they need to attend college. The work I do is very gratifying because I know that I can help other students succeed.

How do you feel Folsom Lake College helped prepare you for the future?

I feel that Folsom Lake College has prepared me to succeed in my future. I am currently interested in the Transfer Agreement Guarantee (TAG) program that FLC offers. I have been taking my general education classes to prepare for transfer. I am determined to attend UC Davis and, thanks to the TAG program, if I fulfill the requirements, my admission is guaranteed. I feel this is a tremendous program for students, like me, who eventually want to transfer to a university.

What are your future goals when you graduate from FLC?

My goal after graduating from Folsom Lake College is to transfer to UC Davis. I would like to get my baccalaureate in international business.
