"The direct hands-on experience through lab class proved to be most beneficial as it provided a forum to practice what we were learning."
I am a 49-year old mother of 4 (2 in college). I have a bachelor's degree in Business and had been a stay-at-home mom for many years. Through my own personal journey to health and fitness, I developed a passion to help others achieve the same. In May of 2011, I obtained my Group Fitness Instructor Certification through ACE (American Council of Exercise) and began teaching group fitness classes at a local gym. Although I attained this certification without classroom instruction, I knew when I made the decision to obtain my ACE Personal Training Certification that it would be imperative to get some formal education to be best prepared to work with individuals and their specific needs. It was the best decision I could have made. Many personal trainers study the material and pass the test, but the REAL test comes in applying this knowledge to practical use in the business world. The ACE Personal Training Preparation classes at Folsom Lake College went above and beyond my expectations to the education and, equally important, the practical application and experience that I would not have achieved anywhere else.
Professor Kimberly Harrell taught the two classes (KINES 410 & 411) specifically designed for the ACE Certification, and did a magnificent job of preparing every one of her students. To my knowledge, every student in this class that took the ACE Test passed it successfully. The direct hands-on experience through lab class proved to be most beneficial as it provided a forum to practice what we were learning. How beneficial that was when performing those same tasks with my new clients!
In January, 2013, I opened my own personal training studio at home and am having great success in helping others achieve their health and fitness goals.
