Robert Fransen
Current FLC student majoring in Administration of Justice

"If it wasn't for FLC and the great staff, who knows where I would be."

Robert Fransen

When did you start taking classes with Folsom Lake College (FLC)?

I began taking classes at Folsom Lake College in 2004/2005. I enlisted into the military in 2005 because I knew I had a passion for Law Enforcement. I figured that the military would allow me to pay for higher education and teach me the discipline that I would need as an Officer. Moreover, after going on several ride a longs with various agencies in the Sacramento area, a lot of the Officers had a military background. I knew then that the military would kick start my career goals. In 2007, I again enrolled at Folsom Lake College part time to major in Administration of Justice.

What was your major?

I have always had a passion for law, so I enrolled into Administration of Justice courses.

Why did you choose FLC?

I chose FLC because it was close to where I lived. It could have not been a better choice. FLC has by far the best faculty, students, and supportive community, which is also why I continued to stay with FLC. It was by far the best investment I have done.

What was the best part of your experience with FLC?

Being part of the Administration of Justice Club was a huge success. To help those in need who need it most and to be part of the book loaner program. I was able to assist in having the community contribute to the purchase of books for those who are highly interested in criminal justice and were unable to afford books through the bookstore. This program gave the opportunity for students to take the classes they wanted at an affordable cost. Moreover, the AJ Club has provided donations for less fortunate people, veterans, and those who have suffered traumatic events in their lives, such programs like WEAVE.

What are you particularly proud of that you accomplished with FLC?

Most of all that I graduated and was able to fully embrace the experience that FLC had to offer. Moreover, I have made great and personal friends with some of the Administration of Justice staff.

How do you feel Folsom Lake College helped prepare you for the future?

I owe everything to FLC and the staff. If it wasn't for FLC and the great staff, who knows where I would be. FLC and the Administration of Justice program has allowed me to succeed. I am a new hire to the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office. I have a true passion for Law Enforcement, and I thank FLC each and every day for what I have accomplished. FLC has established my foundation and pushed me to be a better and more successful student.

What are you doing now?

I start with the Sheriff's Department on 06/15/13 and plan to work my way up the ranks with a reputable and integral agency. In addition, I donate my time back to the community and keep in touch with the AJ Professor's to let them know that if they need me to volunteer or contribute back to FLC and the AJ Club program, I am always here to do so.

What are your plans for the future?

Once I have an established schedule, I plan to come back to FLC for a few more classes. After the basic classes that I need, I plan to transfer to Sac State to receive my bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. Moreover, I plan to keep working with the community and provide assistance to school clubs and give back to those who have helped me succeed.
