Student Story

John Rodrguez
Current FLC student majoring in Business

"Being able to form study groups with friends has made all the difference."

John Rodriguez

When did you start taking classes with Folsom Lake College (FLC)?

I started taking classes in the Spring 2014 just starting off with two classes at a time.

What is your major?

I am a business major and also taking computer science classes so that I can minor in that at Sacramento State.

Why did you choose FLC?

I chose FLC because of the amount of classes they had, and geographically the Los Rios School System has locations all over the Sacramento Region. The convenience we have as students to transfer units from one school to another is amazing.

What has been the best part of your experience with FLC?

The best part of my experience I have had at FLC is getting to know Professor Gibson (who is a Dean of Student Services now) because his lesson plans got me motivated to go from manual labor to business type labor and work. His teachings really have shaped my career and who I am today. Not to mention, I met my girlfriend at FLC and we have been dating for over two years now too.

What are you particularly proud of that you have accomplished with FLC?

I am proud at the relationships that I have been able to make while being a student at FLC. All of us students are truly in this together, and being able to form study groups with friends has made all the difference.

How do you feel Folsom Lake College is helping to prepare you for the future?

I know FLC has helped prepare me for the future, I have already gotten accepted to Sacramento State so that I can keep saving a few dollars before I try to transfer to UC Berkeley after I get my BA in Business. With all the business classes I have taken, I have been able to apply what I am learning immediately at my job with the Sacramento Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
