NEW COLLEGE STUDENTS
New college students are those students who have never attended college (not including classes completed while concurrently enrolled in high school). New students are encouraged to complete the matriculation process (orientation, assessment and counseling), which provides information and support toward fulfilling educational goals.
During the Priority Registration period, students are assigned a PRIORITY REGISTRATION APPOINTMENT for the first date and time that they are eligible to register (and then any time after that). The priority appointment date is a random assignment and can be found online at eServices.
Initially, new students are assigned a Priority 3 registration date; however, if they complete the matriculation steps, they will be moved to Priority 2 registration.
During Open Registration, students can register at any time; however, it is still recommended that New students complete the matriculation process.
Steps to Success – First-Time Student Matriculation Process:
Step 1: Apply for Admissions
Apply using the online application. The application process is free. Allow one hour for the upload process to assign or reactive your Student ID Number. You can search for your Student ID number online at eServices. An email will also be sent to you with your ID number but do not wait to start the process for this email.
Step 2: Apply for Financial Aid
Financial aid can help you pay for college fees, textbooks, transportation, room and board and other educational expenses while attending Folsom Lake College. It would be well worth your time to explore what is available.
Step 3:
Take Assessment Tests
The purpose of assessment is to determine your present skill level in reading, writing and math. Assessment results, along with other information, will be used by counselors to help you select the most appropriate courses.
Step 4: Complete or Attend Orientation
Whether you are a recent high school graduate, returning to college after years in a career or attending college for the first time, our orientation is an opportunity to become familiar with our college and the expectations involved with being in college.
Step 5: Submit official transcripts for all prior colleges and/or universities.
Step 6: Meet with an Academic Counselor
It is important to meet with a counselor to develop a educational plan that will help you be successful. Call the Counseling Center to make an appointment for counseling, at which time you must bring the following:
a. Your assessment test scores.
b. A copy of your high school transcript, including work in progress if you are still in high school.
c. All official transcripts from previous colleges or universities should be on file.
Step 7: Register for Classes and Pay Fees
Online registration is the preferred method of enrollment, along with the ability to pay enrollment fees and purchase parking decals. A few important tips are:
*Enrollment fees are due upon enrollment - classes will be dropped for nonpayment.
*Some courses have prerequisites that must be met before you enroll in that class. Talk with a counselor if you have questions about prerequisites.

TRANSFER STUDENT FROM A NON-LOS RIOS COLLEGE
Like all students new to FLC, if you are transferring from a non-Los Rios college, you are encouraged to participate in matriculation, a special orientation/counseling program mandated by the state, designed to improve student success.
As a Transfer student, you are eligible for Priority 3 registration. You will have a PRIORITY APPOINTMENT DATE for the first date and time that you are eligible to register (and then any time after that). The priority appointment date is a random assignment and can be found online at eServices.
The Matriculation Process:
- Complete an application for enrollment, using the online application. Your application will be uploaded to our system within 30-45 minutes. You can then search for your Student ID number online at eServices.
- Take the appropriate assessment test(s). Go to the Assessment link for further information.
- Attend Orientation or complete Online Orientation.
-Submit official transcripts from all prior colleges and universities.
- Counseling. Call the Counseling Center to make an appointment for counseling, at which time you must bring the following: a. Your assessment test scores, and b. All college transcripts or grade reports.
Although it is not mandatory that you meet with a counselor, it is strongly encouraged that all transfer students meet with a counselor.
