Graduation and Candidate Information

Congratulations on the completion or near completion of your degree at Folsom Lake College! We look forward to celebrating with you, your family and friends at our Commencement ceremony on Wednesday, May 20, 2015, at 6:30 p.m. All summer and fall 2014 graduates and spring 2015 candidates are encouraged to participate. Graduates are required to participate in the rehearsal at 6 p.m. prior to the ceremony.

Commencement Ceremony

Commencement will begin at 6:30 p.m. SHARP on Wednesday, May 20, 2015, at the Harris Center for the Arts at Folsom Lake College. Doors leading into the Harris Center lobby will open at 5 p.m. and doors inside the venue entering the theatres will open at 5:30 p.m.

Who is eligible to participate in the May 20 Ceremony?
Summer and Fall 2014 graduates and Spring 2015 candidates for graduation (who have petitioned with a college counselor for a degree by the March 6th deadline).

Graduate Check-In
Graduates must check-in between 4:45 and 5:45 p.m. at the Harris Center for the Arts in Room 1270 (on the north side of the building, facing the parking lot D).

Commencement Ceremony - Graduate Information Session (required)
The Graduate Information Session will begin at 6:00 p.m. in Room 1270. Graduates are required to attend the Information Session with cap and gown (which you purchase at the College Store). During this time you will be instructed on entering and exiting the commencement area, receiving your diploma cover on stage, proper tassel placement, and seating arrangements. The ceremony will immediately follow the Information Session. For more detailed information including Information Session instructions, click on this link.

Due to limited seating in the Harris Center, graduates' guests will be required to have tickets in order to enter and re-enter the Harris Center for the ceremony. Each venue in the facility will be used with the actual ceremony taking place in the Stage One-Theater. Overflow seating will be available, as needed, in Stage Two-City Studio Theater and Stage 3-Scott-Skillman Recital Hall. Graduate's family and friends should plan to arrive together if they would like to sit together as guests are asked to refrain from saving seats. Parking is free during the ceremony; therefore, Permit and/or Daily Pass Parking will NOT be enforced on the day of the ceremony. However, all red, green and blue zones will be enforced. Parking spaces will be at a premium, guests should arrive early. There is a drop-off area immediately in front of the Harris Center (this area will be blocked immediately after the ceremony ends until the departing crowd dissipates).

Accessible Seating
The Harris Center is accessible to guests with special needs. Accessible seating locations are available for guests in wheelchairs or with limited mobility in all theaters. Wireless Assisted Listening Devices (ALD) are available for check-out at the Kirklin Coat Check Room located in the first floor lobby. To assist our staff in serving you, please make arrangements with the Ticket Office prior to the ceremony - ideally, when placing your ticket order.

Cap and Gown - Regalia
Folsom Lake College requests your cooperation in complying with the following commencement dress rules. Approved commencement dress consists of robe, mortarboard, and tassel. Highest Honors students may wear a gold tassel. PTK members may wear a PTK stole and/or other PTK regalia, which are sold in the College Store or online at the Phi Theta Kappa website,
www.ptk.org. EOPS and Student Government participants also wear stoles. All other ornamentation, including but not limited to signs on the top of mortarboards, buttons, etc., are considered extraneous and are not permitted.

Students with Academic Highest Honors (3.5 – 4.0 GPA) will receive a gold tassel when they check-in for commencement participation. This is not the same as a student’s PTK tassel.
For Summer and Fall 2014 graduates, your Honors status is based upon your coursework from ALL college transcripts in your records – not just FLC.
For Spring 2015 candidates, your GPA calculation is determined using coursework through the Fall 2014 semester – including ALL college transcripts in your records, not just FLC. It will NOT include spring coursework.

Smoking during the ceremony is strictly prohibited.

Professional photographer, Reflections by Michelle Lipowski, will be on site prior to the ceremony to take pictures of graduates. No appointment will be necessary. Portrait package prices range from $35 to $80. For more information, click on this link for the photographer's flyer.

Graduates and their guests are invited to a brief reception in the Harris Center lobby following the ceremony.

In order to participate in the ceremony, you must purchase your cap and gown at the FLC College Store. The cap, tassel and gown are yours to keep and are the required attire for the ceremony (teal robe, teal mortarboard and teal and black tassel). Please purchase your cap and gown prior to the ceremony date.  You have an option to purchase the cap and gown set ONLINE - make sure to give yourself enough time for shipping. 

Cap and gown set: $35.00 (including tax)

Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) members may wear a gold PTK stole and/or Honor Cord. You may purchase these items in the College Store (Stole for $22.50 plus tax / Honor cord for $16.25 plus tax).

Other items you may purchase from the College Store (but not required):Graduation Announcements - $1.00 each (plus tax) / Box of 25 for $19.95 plus tax. Additional tassels - $5.99 (plus tax).

You will have the opportunity to donate your commencement gown after the ceremony has ended - for future graduates. There will be a box to place your gown in as you leave the Harris Center.


If you are participating in the Commencement Ceremony, you must submit the form by Thursday, April 30, in order to ensure you get tickets for your Guest tickets.
