Counselor Expectations

Computer tips:

  • IT encourages us to restart/reboot our computers when we leave for the day.  This ensures that updates will be loaded on to our computers.

Student Privacy:

  • Do not share any information about students with other students, their parents etc without their permission.
  • Be careful when printing student records - make sure you pick up what you have printed in a timely manner.  The printer is in an open hallway accessible to a lot of people.
  • Counselors cannot give students copies of their transcripts from other colleges per FERPA regulations.

Office Etiquette:

Lack of adequate office space has led to the need to share offices.  The following are guidelines for sharing offices:

Full-time Counselors:

  • Please move paperwork off your desk so adjunct counselor don't need to move it.

Adjunct Counselors:

  • Please be considerate when using full-time counselor office space
  • If you move any paperwork, please put it back in place before you leave.
  • If you use any fliers, GE sheets, Petitions, Graduations Petitions, or other forms, please restock at the end of the day.
  • Be careful when eating around the computer space and keyboard.  Crumbs get into the keys and can be difficult to remove.  Please clean up any food or crumbs before you leave each day. Our offices get ants at times!
  • Do not remove anything from the office, including catalogs.
  • If you would like to leave something of your own in an office, please ask the full-time counselor if this would be OK.
