Petition Process

FLC Petitions must be submitted to a specific Admissions and Records individual for tracking and processing purposes.

Here is a partial list of the petitions counselors may encounter:

Academic Renewal Request Form:

  • Student wishes to discount a course in which they have a 'D" or 'F" grade.
  • Counselor reviews students records to see if student qualifies for academic renewal.
  • Academic Renewal criteria can be found HERE

General Education Substitution Petition:

  • Counselors use this form to request the use of a course to meet FLC GE requirements.  This form is not necessary when the course can be 'passed along' (is used in the same GE area at the originating college.
  • This form can also be used to request to use courses in the following Interdisciplinary majors: Arts and Humanities, Communication and English, Social and Behavioral Sciences, Math and Science and Understanding and Development.
  • Counselor submits petition to the counseling clerk who then tracks it and forwards to the GE Sub Committee Chair.

Petition for Course Substitution & Waiver:

  • This petition goes to the Counseling Clerk for tracking purposes.
  • A copy of the petition will be emailed to the student once the petition request has been approved or denied.
  • Counselors will receive an electronic copy of the petition.

Exceed Unit Petition:

  • Used by students wishing to take more than 18 units in the Fall or Spring semester or over 8 units in the summer.
  • Counselor needs to review student's academic history to determine likelihood of success. Counselor reviews with student, fills out recommendation and signs petition.
  • Student turns in petition with an attached add/drop request form at front desk.

Late Add Petition:

  • This petition is for students trying to add a course after the add deadline
  • No counselor signature is required

Student Petition (General):

  • General petition used by students who wish to (after regular deadline) drop with a 'W', drop with no notation, drop for refund, petition for pass/no pass and other reasons
  • No counselor signature required.

Student Petition for Readmission After Dismissal:

  • Jill Morrison and Camille Snow will process all dismissal petitions.

Substandard Grade - Repeat Notification Form:

  • Used when a student has repeated a course in which he/she had earned a D or F.
  • Counselor signature required if student is using a course from outside of the Los Rios Community College District.

Time Conflict/Class Overlap Petition:

  • Used when student wishes to take 2 or more classes that overlap in meeting time.
  • Student must get approval from instructor. Instructor signature required
  • No counselor signature is required.
