New Student Orientation

Congratulations on choosing Folsom Lake College!

We are excited to welcome you as a new student to our campus. It is important that you complete the New Student Steps to Success to ensure you are prepared for your first semester! After completing Step 1: Los Rios Application and receiving your Los Rios Student ID Number, you will be ready to complete Step 2: Orientation.

Students have two options to complete the Orientation:

  1. IN PERSON: Folsom Lake College On-the-Ground Orientation
  2. ONLINE: General Los Rios Online Orientation 

Students must use their Los Rios Student ID Number to complete either Orientation.

1. IN PERSON: Folsom Lake College On-the-Ground Orientation 

Through On-the-Ground Orientation, you will:  

  • Receive a Folsom Lake College Survival Kit, including a copy of the New Student Survival Guidebook
  • Connect with fellow incoming students and peer mentors 
  • Meet college faculty and staff 
  • Learn about academic programs and majors which Folsom Lake College offers 
  • Get to know the many services and resources available to you 
  • Gain a feel for campus life and culture   


On-the-Ground Orientation is 2 hours long, and is offered at:   

  • Folsom Main campus (in Folsom) 
  • El Dorado Center (in Placerville) 
  • Rancho Cordova Center (in Rancho Cordova)   

To register for an On-the-Ground Orientation, click on the campus link below for where you would like to attend an orientation. Use your Los Rios Student ID Number and your date of birth to register. A confirmation email will be sent to your Los Rios Gmail Account.

2. ONLINE: General Los Rios Online Orientation

The online orientation provides an overview of the Los Rios Community College District, its four colleges and information on how to get started on a pathway to academic success. The online orientation includes a series of 8 videos or text modules. At the end of each module, you will be asked several questions about the content. You must score 100% to move on to the next module.

LOS RIOS ONLINE ORIENTATION

  1. Log in using your Los Rios Student ID Number and your Los Rios Password. 
  2. Once logged in, click the link for "Los Rios Online Orientation SR", in the middle of the page. If you do not see the link for "Los Rios Online Orientation SR", click here for directions!
  3. Click on Los Rios Orientation to view and complete the Online Orientation. 

New Student Survival Guidebook: Students who complete the online orientation can access the Folsom Lake College New Student Survival Guidebook HERE. (Students who complete the in-person orientation will receive a hard copy, in addition to other Folsom Lake College giveaways.)
