GENERAL INFORMATION REGARDING TESTING

PICTURE ID MANDATORY
A picture identification is required and student ID # is needed and may be obtained by applying either on line (www.flc.losrios.edu) or at the college site. There is no fee. Calculators, dictionaries, cell phones, pagers, food or drink are not permitted.

RESULTS
Results are available on the next day (M - TH) after 5:00 pm or Friday 3:00 pm. in the student service office. Picture identification is required when picking up the results. No information will be given out over the telephone or faxed to any individual. No second party may pick up your results.

RETAKES
English/ESL/Math Placement Tests: Placement tests may be repeated one time within each testing period. The testing period for summer and fall runs approximately from the second week of February through the second week of September. The testing period for spring runs approximately from the third week of September through the first week of February. Any testing beyond one repeat must be approved by a counselor. Any student who repeats tests without approval will have their scores invalidated.

ATB tests: If a student does not pass the ATB test, skill improvement must take place before scheduling a subsequent test. If a retest occurs before a full 30 days have passed since the previous test, an alternate form must be used for the retest. No form may be administered to a given student more than twice in a 90 day period.

Math Competency: Math competency for graduation may be taken no more than 4 times in any two year period and no more than twice in a semester or once during the summer session.

Reading Competency: Reading competency to graduate may only be taken twice. Please note that your first test for English or Reading placement counts as one of your two attempts!

ASSESSMENT AND TESTING FORMATS OFFERED

ASSESSMENT (ENGLISH & MATH) testing is used for guidance when selecting college courses and/or first time college students and/or used for prerequisite compliance that must be presented to the instructors of Math or English courses at the first class meeting.

English Assessment measures reading comprehension, sentence structure, and usage. The Test consists of Reading Comprehension (30 minutes), Sentence Structure & Grammar (20 minutes) and Sentence & Syntax Skills (15 minutes) all sections must be taken. A handout is available in the Student Services Office at no charge. CTEP is the name of the test instrument.

Math Assessments measure mathematical skills. Students select from Algebra Readiness (45 minutes), Elementary Algebra (45 minutes), Intermediate Algebra (45 minutes), Mathematical Analysis Readiness (45 minutes or calculus (90 minutes). Study Guides for math are available in the Student Services Office at no charge. MDTP is the name of the test instrument.

ESL testing is used for guidance when selecting English as a Second Language course(s). English is not the student's primary language. CELSA is the name of the test instrument.

GRADUATION PROFICIENCY MATH testing may be required for graduation if the course work is not completed in math or evidence of proficiency competency passed is not presented at time of petitioning for an A.A. or A.S. degree. Discuss this issue with your counselor when you petition for an AA or AS degree. Study Guides for Math Proficiency are available in the Student Services Office at no charge. DTMS is the name of the testing instrument. The CTEP English assessment is the Reading Proficiency instrument.

ATB - ABILITY TO BENEFIT TEST is required of students applying for financial aid who do not hold a G.E.D. or High School Diploma. Study guides are available in the Assessment office at no charge. CPAT is the name of the test instrument. It is administered by special appointment only EDC (530) 642-5649 or FLC/RCC (916) 608-6573.

ORIENTATION DETAILS

All first-time and other interested students are strongly encouraged to participate in an orientation session. These sessions include general information on college programs, services, information essential to college success, course selection and registration procedures. New students who participate in orientation and assessment will be allowed to register with continuing students during Priority # 1 registration.
