Lecture Exams: not cumulative. Cover material from lecture, laboratory, and assigned reading. Multiple choice and short essay. Makeup exams allowed with reasonable, preapproved excuse.
Take Home Final Exam: cumulative. Covers material from lecture, laboratory, and assigned reading. Essay.
Homework: Essay questions will be distributed during class.
Lab notebook: Due on May 13th. Writeup for each experiment should include a summary of the experimental procedure, the objective, the results, and the conclusion. Drawings are often helpful.
Report on current topic: Due before May 13th. Approximately 5 pages on any current topic in Microbiology. Use the resource locator and guide on the CD that came with the book, or visit the Microbiology Place website.
Lab quizzes: 9 throughout the semester. Not announced ahead of time (surprise!). Covers material since last quiz. No makeups.

Extra credit: Up to 25 points given on an individual basis. Due before finals week.
