Know the choices. If you are uncertain about your major and career, there are many resources which will give you an understanding of a career. As you research, consider the job titles, job description, job requirements and pay potential. Would you consider self-employment? And what is the career path which you would need to follow?

- Career assistance on campus - Services available through FLC/EDC.
- Career planning resources - Links to career and employment services.
- Informational interviews - By talking with people who are currently working in the field, you will gain a better understanding of an occupation or industry and build a network of contacts in that field.
- Labor market information - Links to sites with statistics about occupational opportunities.
- Occupational Outlook Handbook
- California Occupation Guide - These are a series of information sheets about occupations. They provide statewide information about job duties, working conditions, employment outlook, wages, benefits, entrance requirements, and training.
- Eureka - EUREKA CCIS is software used in California schools, career centers and companies to aid individuals exploring career possibilities. A counselor can give you more information.
- Career Literature - Check the library for details about careers.
- Professional Organizations - Many careers have organizations in which practitioners can remain current in their profession and members may be able to provide you with information and contact persons.
- Workshops and Conferences - As with professional organizations, you'll meet practitioners at workshops and gain insights and contacts.
- Career Fairs - Employers at job fairs can give you more information about their work environment.
- Job Shadowing - By accompanying an individual through their day, you'll learn first-hand what the routine and challenges are like.
- Volunteer/Part-time Work - You'll have the chance to explore a new area of interest and know you're providing valuable services to the community.
- Mentoring - Many professionals are pleased to share their expertise and experiences with newcomers.
