Accessibility Resources

Everyone should be able to take advantage of the programs and services provided by Folsom Lake College. Here are some additional resources:

Disabled Student Programs and Services (DSPS)

Disabled Student Programs and Services (DSPS) provides equal educational opportunity for students with physical, psychological, or learning disabilities. Counseling, support services, and academic accommodations are provided to students who are eligible for the program and encourage students with disabilities to lead active and independent lives by participating in all college programs.

Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

The ADA is a law that was enacted by the U.S. Congress in 1990. The ADA is a comprehensive civil rights law that prohibits, under certain circumstances, discrimination based on disability. Disability is defined by the ADA as "a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits a major life activity." The determination of whether any particular condition is considered a disability is made on a case by case basis. Certain specific conditions are excluded as disabilities, such as current substance abuse and visual impairment which is correctable by prescription lenses.

Office of Civil Rights (OCR)

OCR serves student populations facing discrimination and the advocates and institutions promoting systemic solutions to civil rights problems. An important responsibility of OCR is resolving complaints of discrimination. OCR-initiated cases are typically called compliance reviews. OCR and the College work cooperatively together to address and resolve complaints and ensure voluntary compliance with civil rights laws enforced through OCR.
