Making a Promise

Promise programs offer students up to two years of tuition-free education at our colleges. We believe all students in the Greater Sacramento region deserve a quality college education and that cost should not be a barrier to your educational goals.

Los Rios Promise

The Los Rios Promise covers tuition for 12 to 18 units, but does not cover the cost of books or other fees. Learn about other types of financial aid that can help cover your expenses.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Los Rios Promise, you must:

  • Be a California resident
  • Be a first-time college student*
  • Enroll in a minimum of 12 units
  • Maintain 12 units for fall and spring semesters

* Courses taken during high school (through dual enrollment, advanced education, and so on) are considered "pre-college" and do not prevent you from taking advantage of the Los Rios Promise.

How to Apply

Step 1: Apply to college

Apply to Folsom Lake College through CCC Apply.

Step 2: Apply for financial aid

Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). If you are not a US citizen or permanent US resident, then you should fill out the California Dream Act Application instead of the FAFSA.

Next Steps After You Apply

After you have submitted your college application and your FAFSA or CADAA, you will get a confirmation via the eServices message center. This message will inform you of your Los Rios Promise Program eligibility.

Rancho Cordova Promise is funded by the City of Rancho Cordova's Community Enhancement Fund, a ½ cent local sales tax measure that was approved by Rancho Cordova citizens in Nov. 2014 and provides locally-controlled funds for local priorities.
